Andong Field Trip...Part 2

So to continue we went to another academy canned Byungsan Seowon, similar buildings but I enjoyed these places as I have watched a Korean historical drama Dong Yi. I've also watched sungkyungwan scandal which is about a school for scholars at the time where men could only study at, this is not really that historic but it gives you a good idea of the type of learning experience they had at these academies. I could picture the kind of things that went on in these places and while I let my mind run free it was really enjoyable. =D

Hmm couldn't really tell but if you tickled the tree it's said it would move...
Eunbee (Marie) really had a knack for explaining things in a way that still made it interesting to us even through the translation. Here she explains about this tree which has no bark and how the scholars loved this tree.

Some seriously beautiful views.

The last place we visited was Hahoe Village which was my favourite place, it is a traditional village from the Joseon Dynasty.
The traditional buildings, villages, food, masks, and they even had a wicked mask play which I have some cool pics for.
So lets start with masks carvings...I have a very G rated pic here bit it was really awkward to find random body parts carved out into the wood...keep in mind there were many young school children everywhere around the ages of 7-10 maybe. Some even traveled here from Japan.

All the masks represent a certain type of person/character.
This guy was like the joker who kept laughing at everyone.

Omgosh this dog was so cute, his fur was so pretty too, reminds me of a ninetail fox!, it was really friendly too.
Really made all of us miss our pets! I miss Simba! D:

It was definitely happy to receive some attention.

Hmmmm he was looking at some kind of brick, we assumed it was used as a stove or something like that.
Meet Bob the dj Octopus =D

Don't know what the sign says but Daniel and Kim Hyun Ah got pretty creative...

Tranquil and peaceful, like a bird LOL ;)

Shop selling all of the masks in various sizes, to be honest the masks look freaky to me.

A tree that apparently grants wishes.
These are all little papers that have wishes from people on it and tied on to the tree, looking like leaves off a branch.
Lunch at Hahoe Village, it steamed chicken, let's just say it was sooooo good and tasty, just like all Korean food. I have yet to find something that I dislike. :D

When we looked at the top of the hill we recognised that we were there in the morning taking photo's of Andong, and now we were in Andong taking photo's of the cliff =P
 Daniel, A.K.A. The thinker ;)
Thanks Daniel for walking through the mud to sit on this chair and pose like the thinker LOL, I may actually use this for my digital photography class :P
 Giant Swing!!!!

Ok so the mask play was really intersting these were lions, they were fighting :D

This guy is a butcher.
The giant bull which was killed by the butcher who took his heart and he genitals...like I said it was an interesting play.
The cow also peed on the crowd LOL

The old widow lady who was played my a man ;P

Daniel thinks this was the most scariest mask/character in the whole play, go figure that is was the only character actually played by a female...

Ok so story goes like this, this young woman needs to pee so she looks around and when she thought nobody was watching she relieved herself on the ground, the guy behind her who is a monk saw her and she ends up on his back as he picky backs her away. While that is all happened the laughing guy stars laughing at them to portray the corruption of the monk and also those in that era.

Photo with the old widow character :D

After the play we went home and I had a good rest =D
Ah feels good to have finally finished blogging about Andong! Overall it was really good, so many awesome moments getting to more about everyone and about South Korea!
Coming soon: Cheap delicious eats around Hongdae (just to make you all that extra bit more jealous hehe)
